Otherwise, you will feel definitely feel ripped off. I would recommend this game only to people who want to enjoy a game for its historical value, or perhaps those who can appreciate its charmingly tacky cyberpunk atmosphere. The combat is very simplistic, with next to no depth. To put it into perspective, there are even less RPG elements here than in Bioshock Infinite. Lastly, and most importantly, is that the game lacks the gameplay elements that made future "Shock" games stand out. System Shock 1 has lots of flat out terrible level design. This is because the team that made System Shock 1 is the same team that went on to make Thief and Deus Ex, not the "Ken Levine" team that did most of the future System Shock and Bioshock games. The levels are painfully mazelike, and are frustrating even with a map to guide you. The story lacks the interesting twists and turns that future "Shock" titles included, and there is not much environmental storytelling. The game was very influential, and can be worth the purchase for those who want to experience a piece of gaming history, but do not expect a fun experience. Be warned that System Shock 1 is very different, and almost inarguably inferior to every other entry in the series.
